Swaralankar

Music has always been an integral part of Indian life. The range of musical phenomenon in India extends from simple melody songs to the multiple varieties of classical music. Light music is an important component of Indian music. Various forms of light music – film sangeet, natyageet, abhang, bhajan, etc. are appreciated by music lovers, as no special knowledge or expertise is required to understand it.

Vidyalankar Polytechnic-Swaralankar

Vidyalankar Dyanapeeth Trust proposes to organize Indian Solo Light Music Singing competition – Swaralankar Season 2. This event aims to provide a platform for good singers to showcase their talents and for listeners to experience the best of Indian music.

This year, the theme on which the participants will be performing will be the songs either Hindi or Marathi composed by the music composers: S.D. Burman, Madan Mohan, Shankar Jaikishan, Sudhir Phadke, Shrinivas Khale and Pt.Hridaynath Mangeshkar .

There will be three rounds – elimination round for all participants, preliminary round for top 50 participants selected out of the elimination round and final round for top 20 participants selected out of the preliminary round. Detailed rules for the competition are attached herewith, for reference.

Shri Kaushal Inamadar has agreed to guide us as the mentor for all the activities regarding the competition.

As per the suggestions from our mentor, judges and accompanists have been identified for all 3 rounds. It has been proposed to invite Shri Avadhoot Gupte as the Chief Guest for the Final round.

Rules of Competition

It is Indian Solo Light Music competition (Individual Event)

  • Competition shall be open for all participants of the age between 15 years to 23 years (As on 31st December 2019).
  • Bollywood songs either Hindi or Marathi of music composers: S.D. Burman, Madan Mohan,Naushad Ali / Shankar Jaikishan, Sudhir Phadke, Shrinivas Khale, Hridaynath Mangeshkar  are allowed in the competition.
  • There will be three rounds – elimination round for all participants, preliminary round for top 50 participants selected out of the elimination round and final round for top 20 participants selected out of the preliminary round.
  • For elimination round participants will have to submit an audio tape (Link), recording one stanza of the song selected as per the guidelines mentioned above.
  • Preliminary and final round will be conducted at Vidyalankar Campus, Wadala, Mumbai. The duration of the performance is maximum 3 minutes for the preliminary round (only one stanza) and maximum 5 minutes for final round (only two stanzas).
  • Three acoustic instruments (tabla, music synthesizer and guitar) will be allowed.
  • Instrumental accompaniment will be provided by the organiser for preliminary and final round. Participants can bring their own accompaniments, if they feel so.
  • Time for stage / instruments setting is maximum 3 minutes.
  • There will be a workshop by the Chief Mentor for the event – Shri. Kaushal Inamdar for participants selected for the final round.
  • Every participant must bring valid age proof to be qualified to participate in the competition.
  • Judges’ decision shall be final.
